Prof. Gwarzo donates N1m to the best student of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (Former NorthWest University)



The Founder and Chairman Governing Council of Maryam Abacha American University conglomerate, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has donated one million Naira to the overall best graduating student of NorthWest University, Kano, (Now Yusuf Maitama Sule University), Maimuna Umar Zarewa.

Zarewa, graduated with first class in 
Bsc Chemistry from the former Northwest University Kano in 2017. She also achieved a similar feat as the best graduating MSc student in the Department of Chemistry, Bayero University Kano, in addition to securing an international scholarship for her PhD program in Saudi Arabia.

Announcing the donation, Prof. Gwarzo lauded Zarewa for her achievements and stressed the importance of investing in young talents like Zarewa.


He also awarded the celebrant with a certificate of excellence to motivate other students to face their studies with all seriousness it deserves.

He described Zarewa as a talented, hard-working and productive student, whose aspiration for academic excellence, when supported, would give her the opportunity to realise her dream in life.

Prof. Gwarzo noted that education remains the bedrock of social and economic development of any country, pointing out that if Nigeria could give priority to the sector, the country would become one of the developed nations.

Responding, Maimuna Umar Zarewa thanked Prof. Gwarzo for the gesture adding that no one, apart from her parents, contributed to her educational pursuit like Prof. Gwarzo.

She revealed that it was the Founder who single handedly secured appointment for her with the Federal University Dutsinma, and at the same time facilitated her PhD scholarship in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

She also thanked the organizers of the program and advised other University students to face their studies seriously so as to be successful in life.

Maimuna Umar Zarewa was born on 11th March 1995 in Kano and attended Zarewa Central Primary School when she graduated in 2006. She also attended 
Ruby Springfield College, Maiduguri from where she proceeded to former Northwest University, Kano (Now Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano) and graduated in 2017.

Zarewa had her Master Degree (Msc) in Physical Chemistry at the Bayero University Kano and is currently pursuing her Doctorate Degree (Phd) in Physical Chemistry at the King Fahad University of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Saudi Arabia.

She was a Part time instructor at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano 2022, Lecturer at Federal University Dutsinma 2020 to date.

She is a member of many associations and recipient of various certificates and awards.
