The Management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, has named the School of Nursing Sciences after the renowned humanitarian woman, late Rakietou Hassane Mossi who died on the 17th August 2022 at the age of 37.
The Founder and Chairman Governing Council of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo made the disclosure in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.
He said the management had decided to name the building after the renowned humanitarian lady because of her contributions towards promoting girl-child education.
"We found it necessary to honour the deceased based on her inputted contributions that impacted on many and the society at large," Prof. Gwarzo said.
According to the statement, the Management had also resolved to name the edifice after Rakietou in order to immortalize her with a view to continue to remember her legacies in view of her contribution to socio-economic development in the African sub-region.
The statement further explained that the honour done to the deceased was not on the fact that she was a humanitarian worker, but rather on the basis of her immense contributions in changing and improving the lives of poor and other vulnerable people.
He said Late Rakietou will continue to be remembered as a humanitarian, change maker and innovative strong young woman in humanitarian history due to her immense contribution in bringing socour to poor and vulnerable people across the globe.
“We will continue to remember, celebrate, and promote late Rakietou's good virtues and contributions to humanity in the African continent and beyond''. Prof. Gwarzo said.
The deceased had since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites in her hometown, Niamey, Niger Republic.
