Prof. Gwarzo presents appointment letter to Chief Imam of MAAUN Kano Friday Mosque

 


The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has presented a letter of appointment to the university's Chief Imam, Sheik Muhammad Hassan.

Before his appointment as the Chief Imam of MAAUN Friday Mosque, Sheikh Hassan was Imam at residence of late General Sani Abacha mosque located on Gidado Road, Nassarawa GRA, Kano.

Presenting the letter to Sheikh Hassan, the Founder said the appointment was in fulfilment of the request of the Chairperson, Board of Trustees of the university, Hajiya Maryam Sani Abacha.

"There is nothing our mother, Hajiya Maryam Abacha will request from us that she will not get It, hence our decision to leave our own and appoint Sheikh Hassan.

According to him, Sheikh Hassan has the requisite Islamic knowledge and qualifications to lead prayers in the Mosque.

He, therefore, urged the appointee to avoid anything that could promote any sect while discharging his duties as the Chief Imam of the mosque.

"We don't expect you to to promote politics or any sect as the students of University are from all religious sects.

"So, our doors are always opened for any meaningful advise for the development of the university and promotion of peaceful coexistence in the institution," he said.

In his remarks, Sheik Hassan thanked the Founder and chairman, Governing board of the university, professor Abubakar Gwarzo for the appointment.

He pledged to discharge his duties in accordance with the Sharia because according to him, the appointment is a trust as he would account for his deeds in the hereafter.

Sheikh Hassan was born in Gamborin Gala, Borno state in 1966. He completed his Quranic studies in 1972 and completed the Qur'anic memorisation in 1985.

Similarly, in 1991 he rewrote the Holy Quaran with his own hand and in 2018 he attended a conference of Chief Imams of Friday Mosques in Morocco.
