Former Acting President of MAAUN appointed AAPU Secretary General

 


The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) and President, Association of African Private Universities (AAPU) has appointed the former Acting President of MAAUN, Kano,  Professor Mohammad Sanusi Magaji Rano as the new Secretary General of AAPU.

Presenting the letter of appointment to Professor Rano on Tuesday at a ceremony in the university, the Founder said the appointment was in recognition of Professor Rano's contribution towards the successful take-off of MAAUN Kano.

Prof. Gwarzo, who commended the former Acting President for his selfless service, said the decision to honour Prof. Rano was borne out of commitment and desire to ensure that the appointee brings his intellectual capacity to bear in his new assignment.

"When we were looking for licence from the National Universities Commission, the struggle was done by Prof. Rano. It's important that we have him as the Dean, Post Graduate School in Maradi and later Acting President of MAAUN Kano.

"So, we want to you to extend all your intellectual capacity to bear in the new appointment," Prof. Adamu Gwarzo said. 

He used the occasion to commend staff of MAAUN Maradi for producing quality students which encouraged many other candidates to seek for admission into the MAAUN, Kano.

"We have done a great job in Maradi that is why we have many students wishing to come to MAAUN Kano for their studies.

"Niger is our origin. That is where I gathered the knowledge to come and establish MAAUN Kano. of all the 25 private universities that were given licence at the same time with MAAUN, none of them have quarter of what Iam having here now,' he said.

According to him, over 500 students have been admitted and registered in the university and would in a couple of days commence studies in the university.

The Founder restated his commitment and readiness to commit adequate resources with a view to ensuring that MAAUN Kano is one of the best universities in Nigeria.

He disclosed that his plan is to establish a university campus in Gwarzo within the next two years so as give the people where he came from the opportunity to acquire higher education.

In his remarks, the AAPU Secretary General, thanked Prof. Gwarzo for the honour and promised to do his best in promoting the ideals of the association.

He said AAPU would liaise with other Universities in Mexico with a view to taking researches conducted by African universities to the market.

"Most public universities particularly in Nigeria cannot boast of anything that are beneficial to their communities. So, I will liaise with universities in Mexico because most of their research are taken to the market," he said.

Also in a brief remark, the President of the University, Prof. Mohammad Israr congratulated Prof. Rano on his new appointment and pledged to ensure that the standard of MAAUN Maradi is sustained in MAAUN Kano in order to produce quality students that could compete with their counterparts across the globe.
