The Kano State Gubernatorial Candidate of New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Abba Kabir Yusuf has described Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria as a first-class private University in Kano State.
He said, "Since the establishment of the University in Maradi, Niger Republic, the University has grown tremendously. Its quality is improving. Its standard is improving. You can now say you have a first-class private University”, he told Professor Gwarzo.
“We are delighted and very proud of it. And we want it to be more competitive than any other institution elsewhere. We call upon you to continue to maintain and sustain the quality and standard of the University. And also continue to improve the University”, he stressed.
The governorship candidate made the remarks on Friday, September 16, 2022, when he paid a condolence visit to the Founder and President of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger on the death of Rakietou Hassane Mossi.
Rakietou Hassane Mossi died after a brief illness on August 17, 2022, at the age of 37, and was buried in her hometown, Niamey, Niger Niger in accordance with the Islamic rites.
Earlier, Abba Kabir Yusuf who was in company of his Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, extended his condolence message to Prof. Abubakar Gwarzo who is also the Founder and Chairman Governing Council of MAAUN Kano.
“We wish to extend our condolences over the death of the humanitarian lady, late Rakietou Hassane Mossi”.
He used the occasion to congratulate Prof. Gwarzo on the various awards and traditional titles he received for his contribution towards socio-economic development of the common man.
“We wish you the best for receiving these honours. But the biggest turban is your thought of helping your community by establishing institutions of learning, we hope you will maintain the status quo,”, he said.
Kabir Yusuf praised the University; “The most important thing, we went around the Campus, and we saw for ourselves. We have seen the infrastructure and the development. It's impressive. We congratulate you”.
In his remark, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who is also the President of Association of African Private Universities (AAPU) expressed his gratitude for the condolence visit by the NNPP Gubernatorial Candidate.
"I am very happy for the condolence visit. As we know every soul will taste death. Rakietou Hassane Mossi has contributed her quota tremendously, but God has taken her from us. May the Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Aljannah Firdaus", he prayed.
During the visit the governorship candidate and his entourage went around the campus where they visited various places in the University including the School of Computing, School of Social and Management Sciences, School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing Sciences and Ibrahim Yakasai Sports Complex, among other places.
Among the management Staff of MAAUN that were present during the visit include the President of MAAUN Kano, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar and Dr. Aliyu Maringa, Director, Founder's Office among others.
