MAAUN Kano, Tishk International University, Iraq partner on Scientific Research co-operation


The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano, on Thursday, 4th August, 2022, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tishk International University (TIU), Iraq on Educational and scientific co-operation.

Speaking during the signing ceremony which was conducted virtually, The President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr said the University which started academic activities with four schools, offered 15 different programs.

According to him, the MoU is aimed at establishing and developing a strategic collaborative relationship to promote bilateral academic, educational, and cultural exchange between TIU and MAAUN.

In addition, he said the partnership would promote research in areas of mutual interest, and they will encourage direct contact and cooperation between faculty members, departments, research institutions and students.

Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr said the collaboration would also focus on exchange of publications, academic materials, bilateral exchange of the teaching staff and students in addition to arranging international forums, symposiums, workshops, conferences, organizing and holding joint sport and cultural events.

In his remarks, the President of TIU, Dr. Abdul Samad Salahuddin Ahmad represented by Dr. Jaafer Hussein noted that the two institutions share some similarities saying that both MAAUN and TIU have four schools each.

He expressed hope that the MoU would yield the desired result for the development of the two Universities.

Also speaking, the Vice President Administration of MAAUN, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar said the MoU would pave way for a lot of scientific Research and Development in view of the fact that the two institutions share many things in common.

He explained that the Founder of the University, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo had put in place state-of-the-arts facilities in the instruction as part of strategy to fast-track educational development in this 21st century, particularly in Nigeria and Sub-saharan Africa.

He commended Prof. Abubakar Gwarzo for his commitment towards ensuring speedy development of the University as according to him the focus of MAAUN is now on digital strategy, scientific innovations and research because of their importance towards promoting socio-economic development in the 21st century.

Dr. Awais Abubakar therefore, expressed optimism that the collaboration in the identified areas will enhance modern research, faculty and students exchange as well as research and development.

Also speaking, the Vice President Administration of MAAUN Niger, Dr. Shu'aibu Tanko expressed happiness for attending the meeting and looked forward to having similar collaboration between with his university.

Other officials that witnessed the MoU signing include, Engr. Bashir Mohammed Garba, Head, International Office of MAAUN, Kano, Assistant Prof. Dr. Salisu Ibrahim of TIU, Academic Vice President of TIU, Associate Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ozdemir of TIU and Maqsood Saadi Mohammed of the International Relations office TIU.
