It
is most gratifying to stand before you today to welcome you all to the
2021/2022, being the Maiden Matriculation of our Fresher’s of this great
institution. Today sets the tone for the match towards the actualization of a
vision to provide the best quality higher education in Nigeria, comparable to anywhere

intellectuals and laureates of the world.
Maryam
Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano is the brainchild of Adamu Abubakar
Gwarzo Foundation. A nonprofit, Charitable organization founded in 2010
providing assistance to rural communities in Africa. The centerpiece of the
foundation has been the promotion of Education across the African continent. To
this end, the Foundation offered 1500 scholarships to study higher education at
various levels. This includes 850 Undergraduates, 450 Master’s degree and 200
PhD across Africa, Asia, Europe and America.

foundation in 2013, established its very own first of the four (4) Universities
in Maradi Niger Republic. The other three (3) are Maryam Abacha American University
of Nigeria, Kano, The proposed Franco-British
International University and Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja.
We
stand at the threshold of providing and ideal environment for intellectual
pursuit in the Sciences, Medicine, Humanities, Law and the Arts. An institution
to irrigate and nurture our fertile minds to push the frontiers of Human
thought, illuminate man’s existence and create understanding and progress in
all human endeavours.
Those
of you being matriculated today have all the reasons in the world to be honoured
and proud. You are set to be the beneficiary of profound intellectual and
material investment. You equally must share the burden of our vision.
We
envisioned you, as not only young women and men going through a process, but
those that will set the pace for all academia and the world at large.
It
is my heartfelt believe, hope and prayers, that you will take advantage of, and
make good use of the opportunities here to turn your individual dreams in to a
working reality. You represent the most fertile minds; the whole world is yours
to conquer, the only obstacle before you, is yourselves.
Our
commitment to continue to pursue this project is unwavering. The hard work and
diligence of those of you here today will further spur this commitment and
sustain it. You have a singular and unique opportunity to make yourselves the
envy of the academic world. I am indeed proud of what we have accomplished thus
far, yet all would not have been possible without the support and encouragement
of some institutions and individuals that I will always remain indebted and
beholden to.
The
Federal Executive Council under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari
(GCFR), remain the great pillar of our foundation for finding us worthy to
grant approval for our University. The Federal Ministry of Education, under the
leadership of Malam Adamu Adamu has been most exemplary in its support and
understanding. The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano is a
child of years of diligent work in overseeing the Education sector. The Kano
State Government, our Host State, Under the Scholarly Executive Governor, His
Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR made it not only possible for us to
secure the necessary site but facilitated all our efforts. The National
Universities Commision (NUC) charged with the unenvious task of babysitting the
many Universities has been unstringing in its advice, suggestions and counsels.
I am personally grateful indeed.
Once
again, I thank you all for your presence here today and pray that Allah will
take you back safely to your various destinations.
Thank
you. God bless you all.
