Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano has organized the first International capacity building Workshop on "Information Searching, Sourcing and Use for Academic Writing: Tips and Strategies".
The two-day workshop which was organised by the University's Library for students and other stakeholders, started on Saturday, 2nd July, 2022, and ended on Sunday, 3rd July 2022.
The workshop was designed to develop the skills of students and other participants in online information search strategy and a new mode of academic writing.
During the workshop discussions were also held on the protocols involved in information searching and academic writing, using PowerPoint presentations and slides.
In addition, practical examples were displayed on the easy ways of searching for information on the internet.
No fewer than 1,185 participants were registered for the workshop after which an E-certificate was issued to them.
The keynote address was presented by Dr. Deepk Shrivastava Kumar, Head of Divisional Government Public Library, Kota, Rajastan, India, where he highlighted the importance of using libraries for academic success.
A total of four papers were presented during the two-day workshop, one each in the morning and afternoon session.
The resource persons that presented papers were the Medical Librarian, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria, Dr. Aminu Musa,
College Librarian (DAC), Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Dr. Hassan Usman and Head of Department, Teaching Support Division, Kaduna State Library Complex, Dr. Kabir Sahabi
The workshop was attended by principal officers of the university. Those in attendance were, the President of the University, Prof. (Dr.), Mohammad Israr, Vice President Administration/Registrar, Dr. Habib Abubakar Uwais, Acting Director, Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Nura A. Yaro, the visiting Librarian of the university, Dr. Ukashatu Hamza Musa and Dr. Abdullahi Garba of the School of Social and Management Sciences.
The workshop, which was conducted physically and virtually, consisted of two basic aspects; theoretical and practical aspects.
The afternoon segment of the workshop on the second day was dedicated to discussions on information searching, academic writing and question and answer session.
The MAAUN President congratulated the participants for having the privilege to participate in the international conference which is the first of its kind and promised to continue to organize similar workshops in the future.
