The Chairman, Governing Council of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has congratulated the famous Photojournalist, Muhammad Sani Maikatanga for winning the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) Africa Award 2022 Photo Competition.
Maikatanga, a renowned photojournalist in Nigeria became the first Winner after receiving the highest votes. His photograph, Fishers on Run taken from the Argungu Fishing Festival fetched him the award.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement personally signed by Prof. Abubakar Gwarzo and issued to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday, 14th June, 2022.
The award winning photograph of thousands of fishermen was taken during the Argungu Fishing Festival in Kebbi State in 2020.
According to him, the award should be a pride to all working journalists in Nigeria in particular and Africa at large
"So, on behalf of the Governing Council of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN),:Kano, I wish to congratulate Maikatanga for achieving the feat.
"May the Almighty Allah continue to give him the strength and ability to achieve more of such feat in his career as a photojournalist," Prof. Abubakar Gwarzo said.
Maikatanga, an indigene of Nasarawa local government area of Kano State, had worked with different media organizations national and international at different capacity.
He was a reporter/photojournalist with a vernacular Hausa Magazine (FIM) for some years. He also worked as a freelance photojournalist with the Leadership Newspaper and later joined Media Trust Nigeria Limited, publishers of Daily Trust Newspaper.
He won several awards as best photographer of the month in Daily Trust Newspapers Company in addition to receiving certificates and cash.
