Kano Emir Upgrades MAAUN Mosque To Status Of Friday Mosque

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has upgraded the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano, mosque to the status of a Friday mosque.

The Emir announced the upgrading of the mosque when the mosque committee led by the President of MAAUN, Professor Mohammad Israr paid him a courtesy call at his palace on Tuesday.

Bayero, who spoke through the Wazirin Kano, Alhaji Sa'ad Muhammad, said the upgrading of the mosque from conventional mosque to Friday mosque would give students the opportunity to conduct their Friday prayer without necessarily trekking to far places to attend the prayer.

He urged the management of the university to ensure strict adherence to all guidelines governing the establishment of Friday mosque as enshrined in Sharia.

The Emir commended the Founder of the university, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for establishing the mosque.

The State council of Imams of Friday mosque had also endorsed the Emir's decision to upgrade the mosque to the status of a Friday mosque.

Earlier in his remarks, the Village Head of Kawo, Alhaji Kabiru Garba, who led the Mosque committee to the palace, said the mosque deserved the gesture as the University had followed due process for the establishment of a Friday mosque in terms of distance from the mosque to other Friday mosques in the area as well as facilities that are required to be put in place.

The traditional ruler said the mosque had met all the requirements needed for the establishment of Friday mosque and thanked the Emir for giving his approval for the upgrading of the mosque and asked residents of the area to make the best use of the place.

It could be recalled that the Founder of the university, Professor Abubakar Gwarzo had recently presented a letter of appointment to the university’s Chief Imam, Sheik Muhammad Hassan.

Before his appointment as the Chief Imam of MAAUN Friday Mosque, Sheikh Hassan was Imam at residence of late General Sani Abacha mosque located on Gidado Road, Nassarawa GRA, Kano.
